Karnataka to implement National Education Policy

Karnataka will implement the much-publicised National Education Policy (NEP) from current academic year and all necessary arrangements have been made in this regard, said Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr C.N. Ashwath Narayan.

He was speaking after inaugurating the virtual national seminar on ‘Implementation of NEP – 2020 in Karnataka: Opportunities and Road Ahead’ organised by the Karnataka Rajya Mahavidyalaya Shikshak Sangh (KRMSS) at University of Mysore.

The State Cabinet has already given its approval for the report submitted by Task Force encouraging the implementation. As per the new policy, the Karnataka State Commission would design the education pattern, its control, finance and research.

Minister Narayan said that the National Education Policy Implementation Task Force has proposed a roadmap for the implementation of the policy.

“State government was proactive on the National Education Policy and Karnataka was the first State to initiate policy implementation. Higher education would undergo a deep structural change, thanks to NEP. A student will get complete liberty to choose what they like to learn. Students can choose subjects according to their interest, passion and ability,” he added.

He also said that the universities have taken the meaningful initiative to motivate the faculty and institutions to be involved in the process of effective implementation of NEP 2020 in Karnataka.
