KRS Reservoir releases 75,000 cusecs of water, entry to Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary restricted

Mandya: The entry to the famous Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary near Srirangapatna has been closed for visitors after KRS reservoir released waters on Saturday.

Incessant rainfall in the Cauvery River basin has created flood like situation in parts of the district. Heavy rainfall in Kodagu has increased the inflow to KRS reservoir after which, the dam has released over 75,000 cusecs of water to the river. Fearing floods, the authorities have decided to close the entry to the bird sanctuary.

With pouring rains, Krishnarajasagara is at its brim, in two days, the reservoir will reach its maximum. As of now, the reservoir stands at 118ft, maximum being 124ft. While the inflow to the dam is 70,000 cusecs, the outflow is 75,000 cusecs.
