University of Mysore May adopt Khadi attire in convocation

Mysuru: A committee has been formed by the University of Mysore to find alternatives to the western-style gowns worn during the convocation ceremony. The western style attire may be replaced by Khadi or any other suitable handloom fabric. There is an urge for adopting Indian handloom attire that reflects Mysuru-Karnataka tradition.

The committee under the Registrar (Evaluation) will study the alternatives found in the ceremonial gowns by other universities and make recommendations.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has prescribed Khadi, the dress code for convocations and other such ceremonial events in the universities and colleges in 2019.
