Karnataka: There is no case of bird flu (H5N8) in Karnataka and officials has asked to maintain alertness, state Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan said.
Even though not a single case is registered in the state, the authorities concerned have asked to remain alert. Karnataka has put on a ‘high alert’ due to bird flu in neighboring state Kerala, recently. Bird flu outbreak was also reported in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
The minister held a high-level meeting of senior officials of various departments concerned. He instructed that a meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioners be held in all districts to keep a vigil. He also asked the authorities concerned to take relevant precautionary measures against bird flu.
Directions have been given to have proper coordination between forest, urban and rural development and police departments.
Deputy Commissioners of the districts sharing a border with Kerala have been directed to take preventive measures by holding district level disease control committee meetings.
Forest officials have been directed to be vigilant about symptoms of the flu or unnatural deaths among birds in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts bordering Kerala.
Recently Deputy Comissioner of Mysuru Rohini Sindhuri ordered a ban for poultry transportation entering Mysuru district from Kerala through Bavali check post.
