Rishabh Pant on Tuesday became the fastest Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket. He crossed the previous record of the MS Dhoni who reached a 1000- run mark in 32 innings. Pant has taken 27 innings to score 1000 runs.
Pant reached the milestone during the second session of the fourth Test between India and Australia in Brisbane’s Gabba.
Pant has represented India in 15 tests, 16 ODIs and 28 T20Is in which he has scored 784 runs. In the ongoing Australian tour, he has impressed with his attacking 97 in the drawn Sydney Test.
Dhoni had played 90 Tests, scoring 4876 runs including six centuries and 33 fifties. In 350 ODIs, he scored 10773 runs with 10 centuries and 73 fifties.
The fourth Test was nicely poised at Tea break as India reached 183/3, needing 145 runs to win the match. Australia, on the other hand, needs seven wickets to win the match and win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which they had lost in 2018-19.
Australia had won the first Test of the series in Adelaide, while bowling out India for their lowest Test total of 36.
